Artecard is a good idea in principle, but poor in practice. We bought two, and both downloaded the app (one on iPhone, one on Samsung). The iPhone worked for about six hours then the app "lost" the card, and it wouldn't recover it. The help desk were useless, first telling us the app was updating, then simply telling us to "try the website". Then ignoring us completely. The app froze/stopped working every time you logged in, after less than 5 mins use. The website did the same. Hence, you spent all your time furiously logging out, logging back in again, then finding your card, opening it, then getting up the right QR Code. Utterly useless when you're in a queue with lots of impatient Italians, and pushy tourists. Plus: you need a constant signal to use it (so bad luck if you're relying on WiFi, it will never work - or if you are on data roaming, you will need a signal constantly). So, we ended up buying more public transport tickets between the app not working, and bad signal.
