Both Vesuvius and Herculaneum are well worth the trip. But our bus arrived late (we were warned by WhatsApp as we waited at the stop). The online guide for Herculaneum was as good as useless. The numbers on the guide didn’t fit those on the monuments, and eventually the guide stopped and that was that. On the back we left Herculaneum, and instead of returning to Naples we were driven to Pompeii to drop some people off, then got out of the bus, waited there, and finally set off back to Naples. Probably an hour of extra travel about which we hadn’t been warned.
