Roma: Tour Guidato delle Catacombe di San Callisto e Appia Antica

Die Tour war viel zu teuer. Der Eintritt in die Katakomben kostet 10 Euro, dort hätten wir auch eine deutsche Führung haben können. Die Informationen auf dem Weg zu den Katakomben und beim Aquädukt waren OK, für unsere Begleiter ind der letzten Reihe im Bus aber akustisch nicht verständlich. Ganz enttäuschend fanden wir, dass wir die schönsten Stellen der Via Appia Antica gar nicht gesehen haben. Auf Nachfrage, wo wir denn die Grabmäler an der Via Appia sehen können, kam die Antwort: Das ist ganz weit weg. Und das ist definitiv eine Lüge. Wir haben uns wirklich mehr versprochen von einer Tour, die 85 Euro kostet pro Person. Leute, lasst euch mit dem Taxi zu den Katakomben fahren, dann seid ihr allemal besser dran.

Guide arrived late. We were a small group of 5 but guide did not speak to us on the journey and chatted with the driver instead. Other guests were trying to ask her questions about places we were passing on the way. The visit to the catacombs was the best part and the priest who was our guide was very good. The next part of the trip was a short time spent on the Appian Way then another quick stop to see the aqueduct. I asked the guide a few questions but she did not understand me or the other guests who tried as well. Bit of a nothing tour but if you can arrange your own transportation a visit to the catacombs is well worth it.

Very interesting. One of our favorite activities on the whole Europe trip. The catacombs were cool on an extremely hot day. Wanted to stay down there a lot longer! The aquaduct park & Appian way were peaceful & quiet, a VERY NICE break from the crowds in Rome. Guide (Name started with M - Marina? Monica?) was knowledgable. She gave recommendations and directions for other locations after the tour. I recommend this tour.

The content of the tour is quite good but the rest is lacking. Our tour group was divided between 3 vans. While driving, the guide who was in one van attempted to speak to us via radio but it was hard to hear because we'd get too far apart and it would get crackly. We also had a guide with a heavy accent which made comprehension limited not to mention to driver playing music and claiming he didn't speak English when asked to turn it off. Our guide was clearly knowledgeable and trying their best, but was difficult to understand. You have a Vatican guide at the catacombs, which was nice and the tour was great. Such interesting history. I enjoyed walking on the Appian Way and seeing the aquaducts, but didn't really get much context due to not understanding the guide. Our tour left late from the final spot and our driver drove VERY erratically back to the drop off point. A lot of speed up to brake hard. Take a tour that allows you to see these places, but find another tour company.

This tour was absolutely perfect, as was our guide, Cattia. It was exactly what I was looking for. We first went to the Catacomb of St. Callixtus, where we had a Catacomb guide who spoke well-articulated English, which was important because although the tour was in English, there were some people for whom English was not their first language. Then we drove to and learned about the tomb of Cecilla Metella. Following that, we walked along the Appian Way a little while -- a major selling point for me. Lastly we parked at an entrance to the Roman Aqueduct park, and walk along a nice path for excellent views. It was a perfect 3 1/2 hours spent.
