Mount Etna Summit Crater Trek with a Volcano Guide

This was a great tour overall. The experience of trekking to the summit and spending time at the main craters was fantastic. The guide was knowledgeable and helpful and looked after everyone in our fairly large group. whilst physically demanding at times, he ensured appropriate rest breaks and gave lots of useful information about Etna. Unfortunately the communication prior to and on the day of the tour wasn't good. On the morning of the tour, after already departing to drive to Etna, we received a text message saying to bring layered clothing. This was too late so we were forced to hire jackets on the day that were then too hot. A better explanation of the types of clothing and layers required, a day or so before, would have been very helpful. On the day my boyfriend was told he should be wearing trousers, not shorts, but shorts were actually fine. We felt we were made to feel a bit of a nuisance due to our clothing. Decent walking shoes or hiking boots are absolutely essential.

This activity was definitely a highlight of my trip to Sicily. The view was amazing and our guide was very knowledgeable. I am not in the very best shape but found this very doable. The pace isn't that high and I could borrow hiking shoes and poles which definitely made it a lot easier. I even got a warmer coat from them because they thought I'd be freezing in mine. I'm Dutch, so to me, it wasn't that incredibly cold out there. I was fine in a T-shirt, but do keep this in mind if you're not used to colder temperatures! (and of course it depends on the weather which can change very rapidly, so bring something just in case) We did not go all the way to the top due to activity but it was still worth it!
