From Rome: Pompeii & Herculaneum by High-Speed Train - Guided Archaeological Tour

Great day trip for those wanting to see the sights of both Pompeii and Herculaneum. Askos Tours were very proactive and communciated well in ensuring we knew the plan for the day, especially the Rome-Naples train. Our guide Amadeo was incredibly personable, knowledgeable and passionate about these two historic sites. The air-conditioned minibus was a welcome relief from the hot weather. Would highly recommend!

Please remember this was my experience. I learned and saw so much but it was a very long day. Herculaneum was first and it was very hot. Pompeii was a bit cooler and a little more shade. It was approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes on a small bus, getting off and on four times. The bus was tight, especially for us plus size Americans. Sorry guys. There was 70 minutes each way to and from Rome but I enjoy the high speed trains. And lunch at the mall foodcourt wasn’t great but there was 19 of us, they did their best. The mall was air conditioned and clean. If you’re good with all of that it’s worth it. It was worth it for me and my spouse.

Raphael is a very knowledgeable, thoughtful, and helpful guide. If you're going to visit Pompeii and Herculaneum in one day, this is a very good and reasonable service for not just seeing important ancient sites but understanding them. It's also really helpful that the tour takes care of logistics of travel to and from sites. That said, having now had this experience, I encourage people, if they are able, to spend at least two full days minimum: a full day at Pompeii, a half day at Herculaneum, and a half day at the archeological museum in Napoli. The power of the experience really depends on your spending the time to reflect upon and connect with the experience of ordinary people 2000 years ago, and that takes a level of reflection and imagination that is hard to rush.

Great trip with the family. A little bit of confusion at the Naples meeting point - basically we stay there until tour operator arrives. Our guide Diego was very informative and comprehensive with the history of the sites (pre and post volcanic eruption). In hot weather, I wouldn’t recommend this tour for those with a low level of fitness as there is a fair bit of walking and the heat adds to the difficulty. Would highly recommend this tour.

Vincenzo was a brilliant guide, so knowledgeable and funny. He made the entire tour really interesting and definitely worth the money. The tickets for the train arrived as expected and it was easy to catch from Rome to Naples. Would definitely advise making sure to grab some food in Termini train station before you leave because it can feel a while until the mall stop. Was a great place for lunch though, plenty of options. I will say there was definitely no discount voucher like the description says though so that’s misleading. Overall would definitely recommend!

It was excellent! Amadeo is an extremely knowledgeable guide, with a lot of precise details about the site. I really wouldn’t recommend going to pompei / Herculaneum without this type of guide otherwise you’re just walking around a bunch of unmarked ruins. This type of guide is a history’s buff dream. For anyone going in the middle of summer, stock up on sugary snacks, bring lots of water and buy a Coke Zero at the vending machine before Herculaneum lol you’re going to need it. Would also recommend eating a big breakfast in the morning.

Amadeus, our guide, was outstanding! He was very knowledgeable and had a passion for sharing the history of both Herculaneum and Pompeii. He showed us all the key highlights and much more for both historic places. In addition, he made sure our day was as comfortable as possible considering it was well over 34 degrees and extremely humid. We highly recommend Amadeus! The tour company, Askos, also did a great job in communicating all the relevant details prior to the tour in a timely manner by sending emails and WhatsApp messages (we were arriving from Rome for the day). I would not hesitate to utilize this company for booking our future tours.

What an amazing trip - we are on our way back now, after an exhausting day in the heat! Our guide, Rafael, was awesome! He was funny, knowledgeable and understanding of how hard the heat was to deal with, but we learnt so much and really enjoyed ourselves! Would strongly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to actually walk amongst history, but recommend that you request Rafael, he made the day extra brilliant

I want to thank Our guide, Amadeo. He was absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately, my daughter got sick and he was kind enough to have the driver drop us off at a mall while he attended the rest of the clients through Pompeii. We did manage to see Herculaneum and he was so incredible knowledgeable and so passionate. It made me sad to have to miss Pompeii but was so appreciative of how accommodating he was. He is certainly an asset to this company.
