   The next step is to conquer the hilltop where San Giorgio Castle, the most emblematic icon of La Spezia, dominates. Dating back to the 13th century as a mere watchtower, the structure was later modified into a formidable fortification guarding its beautiful city below. It’s worth considering giving the site another visit and making a day of it to experience the archaeological museum inside the castle and the cable car service.

   The star of all is the majestic bronze statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi at the heart of these serene gardens. The 60-ton bronzework located in a beautiful flowered setting with clear views of the sea and the mountains is one of the few equestrian statues in the world with a prancing horse standing only on its hind legs.

   Ponte Thaon di Revel

   At the end of the fascinating tour, take a stroll along the photogenic Bridge of Revel to unwind from the hustle by enjoying the cool breeze and admire the backdrop of the hilly city and the castle of San Giorgio as well as luxurious yachts and cruises in the busy seaport.
