Vatican City: Via Triumphalis Necropolis Guided Tour

The tour started out patchy. The meeting point for our tour was the same point and time as there other tours, and our guide was sitting in the bar. Having a coffee with no indication that he was the contact for a tour (no sign, flag, or clipboard with the tour company name). Luckily he only walked us to the entrance, and was not our guide. Our guide was good and very knowledgeable about the necropolis, but it was difficult to hear what was being said. The are was fantastic and it gives you a great sense of what funerals/burials were like so long ago.

We absolutely loved this tour. Maria is obviously very passionate about the history of Rome and sharing it with others. Her energy and enthusiasm during the tour really brought all of the information she was sharing with us to life. And, being able to tour the Necropolis with such a small, intimate group was simply incredible. We took several different tours while in Rome and this one was definitely one of our favorites. Highly recommend. Maria is wonderful.

Soft spoken tour guide was hard to understand without a microphone or audio system. It was a very interesting tour but seemed to be the same information repeated over and over. I would recommend making it 1 hour so it doesn’t feel dragged out. It’s definitely a cool tour that not everyone knows about so if you want to try something different check it out!
