Reggia di Caserta e Giardini Inglesi: Tour Guidato o Self-Guided

It’s was an interesting visit. The palace is huge. So are the gardens. It was such a hot day we didn’t get to see as much of the gardens as we wanted. We used the shuttle bus to get to the end (which is an extra charge). I felt the extra was a bit cheeky especially as there is a lot of garden restoration going on and lots of things are covered.

Amazing building, from the start of the grand marble staircase to the chapel to numerous extravagant gold-cladded rooms and frescoes. Worth seeing. Spend at least 3 hours in the building. It appears that there once may have been a garden in front of the palace as you walk towards the palace from the station, but this area is dry and neglected. I walked the road at the back of the palace up to the English gardens, but it was too hot and not much to see. (Rather take the shuttle or rent a bike, available from the back of the palace.) The fountains along that road were under renovation.
