San Gimignano: Vineyard Walk with Organic Wine Tasting

I understood in the advertisement that I would learn about winemaking, walk among the vineyard and see the wine cellar. It was an underwhelming experience. The vineyard “tour” was a 5-10 minute talk at the edge of the vineyard just 30 meters from the parking lot. It felt very much like an assembly line. Get us in. Talk little bit about the wine we were tasting and get us out. We sat next to the coffee/espresso vending machine that was used by the vineyard staff “while” we were having our sit down food and wine paring. Very disruptive. Our wine guide left part way through our food/wine paring to spend time with another group a wine tasting. This just reinforced the sense of being in a production line. We have done other wine/food tastings in San Gimignano and they were fantastic. On those tastings we felt the staff loved what they were doing at the vineyard and were really happy to share their love with others. The food and wine were quite good.
