Pompeii: Guided Tour and Skip-the-Line Ticket

The tour was the main highlight of our family holiday in Italy, the other being the Herculaneum tour we also booked through this app. If is fascinating and great to see the kids enjoyed it as much as we did. The Pompeii site is amazing, seeing the town how it was is thought provoking. Our guide Melania, was superb, knowledgeable, informative. Seeing the site with guide added to much to the experience. Thanks very much.

First of all the guide was seeking terrible English. We were struggling to understand her. Second she went to all insignificant monuments because she didn't want to be around all the other People. She was making stops at places where other guides were and she was listening what they were saying. In two hours there is plenty of time to go to the important houses. She was hardly walking and she didn't show us anything. It was total lost of money and time.

We arrived as instructed at least 5 mins before our 9:45 tour to be directed to a waiting area and told it was likely going to be 10am by the time we left as we 'had to wait for everyone'. 10am came and went and all we got was repeated promises that we'd be leaving in a few minutes as we were just waiting for 4 more people. Turns out these 4 people were on a bus day tour arranged by the same company and the bus was running late. When it finally arrived the majority of the bus stayed together for a tour and 4 people were put into our group. Why they couldn't have stayed together when they were all arriving together, who knows! The tour finally started 45mins late. Multiple people had to leave halfway through to get to other plans because of this. Once started, the tour guide was good and engaging but the experience was definitely marred by the chaotic start.

We were a party of 4 and really benefitted from a guide dedicated just to us rather than the large parties on the site. As four of us, with a lovely and very knowledgable guide, we saw and understood so much more than we would have done otherwise. The only major thing we did not see was the brothel because our guide chose to avoid the lengthy queues at that building in order to fully use her time with us.

Although we arrived at the meeting point in good time, because there were so many other groups in the area it was very difficult to find our guide which was quite stressful. Other members of the group had the same problem. This caused quite a long delay and this could have been avoided if the guide had identified herself more clearly. Once we got going we enjoyed the tour and our guide clearly knew her stuff and was happy to answer questions. The group was perhaps a little too large and at times when we were spread out, it was difficult to hear what she was saying because she was out of range of the headset.
