In front of us stands the Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory, surrounded by greenery and symbolizing Florence’s deep scientific tradition. Just below, nestled among cypress and olive trees, lies Villa Il Gioiello, where Galileo Galilei spent the final years of his life under house arrest. Here, surrounded by silence and nature, he continued to study the stars and write some of his most important works. Here, you can still see a long stretch of the 14th-century walls that once surrounded and protected the entire historic center. Walking — or passing through by golf cart — in this area feels like stepping back in time, among towers, bastions, and ancient entry roads.
