What's included

The imposing complex of San Michele in Bosco, located on the top of the hill of the same name, offers a breathtaking view of Bologna and the Alps. Of ancient origins, it has been rebuilt and expanded over the centuries. After the Napoleonic repressions, it had various uses, such as a barracks, a prison, and a villa, until it became the site of the Rizzoli Orthopedic Hospital in 1880 thanks to a donation from Professor Rizzoli. Despite the transformations, you can still visit the church, the octagonal cloister, the refectory, the dormitory, the guesthouse, the cloisters, and the park. The hill also houses the Fonte Remonda, an example of hillside water collection that is still in operation. Places visited: Fonte Remonda (exterior), former Monastery of San Michele in Bosco (now the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute), cloisters (including the octagonal cloister), former refectory (Vasari room), guest quarters, dormitory corridor (cannocchiale), church, belvedere, and park.
