   A medieval fortress-palace overlooking the valley, the scene of the era in which Viterbo was the seat of the papal curia for over twenty years and of the first, longest conclave in history: 1,006 days locked down, with the roof uncovered and the cardinals reduced to bread and water.

   Quartiere San Pellegrino

   The San Pellegrino district is the medieval heart of Viterbo, one of the largest and best-preserved 13th-century neighborhoods in Europe. Entering from Piazza San Carluccio, you stroll along alleys of peperino and basalt, the gray volcanic stone of Tuscia that has retained its 12th-13th-century appearance virtually intact. No Renaissance or Baroque additions: here, the Middle Ages remain intact.

   Since 2016, Frantoio Presciuttini has been reclaiming and promoting abandoned olive groves in the Province of Viterbo. Over the past five years, over 9,000 trees have been rescued from neglect. From now on, you can participate in all the initiatives with a simple reservation. Expert and dedicated staff will guide your olive grove experience, and an expert taster will share the thrills of the sensory analysis of the oils.

   Vitorchiano is astonishing for the integrity of its historic center, and is not only considered one of the most beautiful historic centers in the entire province of Viterbo, but is also listed among the most beautiful villages in Italy. Its houses seem to blend seamlessly with the volcanic rock spur that supports them. This is why Vitorchiano has been nicknamed the "Hanging Village."
