Good to know

Carry a valid photo ID or passport for verification at entry.
If you opt for a digital audio guide, bring your own headphones for a better listening experience.
Wear sturdy, comfortable footwear as the ground is uneven in many areas.
Since most of the visit takes place outdoors, pack sunscreen, sunglasses, water, and a hat. The site remains open in all weather conditions, so a light raincoat or umbrella is also useful.
Due to uneven surfaces and steep sections, the site is not fully accessible and may pose challenges for visitors with reduced mobility.

Restrictions & safety

Large backpacks, suitcases, and bulky luggage cannot be brought inside or on transfer services.
Food and drinks are not included and may be restricted in certain zones.
Pets are not allowed, except for certified service animals.
Smoking, alcohol, and any prohibited substances are strictly banned on-site.
Flash photography and the use of tripods or professional filming gear may be limited in some areas.

A very cool experience! Amazing that Herculaneu gets so little attention compared to Pompeii - it many ways it's even better: up-close and persobal. Highly recommended...

Herculaneum was great. Chose it because thought it would be less crowded and more manageable than Pompeii. Which it was. Entry was hassle free with head out ticket. While the audio guide played the dialogue. It did not sync with what we were looking at. Could not zoom into map to try and navigate to sync with the dialogue. Not helped because it was too sunny to see the screen properly. Do yourself a favour and get a human guide.

The audio guide system was a disaster. The geolocation wasn't accurate enough for the site, the order of the audio guide points was different from that on the website, some locations were impossible to listen to, and it was impossible to zoom in on the map. I would never use this system again.

No advantage to buying this ticket through Headout compared to the venue, just cost more money. On entry we just had the ticket barcodes scanned, weren't handed an audio guide (was charged extra for this through Headout) and people entering behind us DID have audio guides (presumably because they queued at the ticket office and got given them then). So, Headout has poor integration with the Herculaneum ticket office with zero value-add, for us.

It's hard to find the location in the audio guide. The numbers listed on the website don't match the numbers in the audio guide. The map is difficult to use.

A wonderful visit to the beautiful, well-preserved Herculaneum! We had a lovely day, and it was nice to have the audio guide playing as we walked around and explored on our own.

We had an incredible time walking through the ruins on Herculaneum. To see the remnants of the city was mind blowing. Our tour guide was fantastic! She was full of knowledge and insight, giving us lots of information and answering questions. Highly recommend!

I had already downloaded the audio guide without any problems, but once I got there, it took over an hour of trying—including reloading my phone several times—before I could finally use it, only after completely deleting the app. Even then, however, the overview map didn’t respond to attempts to zoom in, zoom out, or pan. Likewise, the map didn’t respond when I tapped on individual attractions, so I had to scroll through the entire list every time to find the right description. There was no discernible logical order to the attractions—they weren’t listed alphabetically or in any other way. I wasn’t the only one who experienced these problems; my children, who grew up with digital media (and have just turned 18), had the same issues. A very disappointing and exhausting experience. Herculaneum itself is, of course, well worth seeing, but the app pretty much ruined my day.

The archaeological site is wonderful. It's like taking a trip back in time. I went with my wife and my daughters, and even though they're still little, they had a great time too.

We enjoyed the charm of the place. However, the audio guide doesn't work, and there are no instructions on how the tours are structured. You'll have to figure it out on your own.
